Iraq Elections

We,, the numbers that I have seen say that 55% of registered voters cast ballots, which is higher than I expected, but I have yet to see % of total in country population vs. out country. Now the wait for the vote to be tallied and the new leader to emerge. In looking at the faces of the people who voted, it is somewhat comforting to see thier excitement, but when all the pictures of children in Bahgdad playing are overshadowed by a city in ruin, and the polling place has seperate lines for each sex, one has to wonder if the Iraqi people are truly ready to participate in a democracy, or if they believe that doing what the Americans tell them will bring a swifter end to the occupation. This will be sold by our acministration as a huge success, the 30 or so dead people will be marytrs for freedom, and we will begin crafting our shadow government. Because, lets face it, this administration did not do all this work for the Iraqis to elect someone who wouldn't go along with thier policies. that wouldn't be efficient. But the road is long, and we've made some grand promises, for example, what happens once the majority of our forces leave and there is a power struggle? Do we invade again?
